Aus you tube:
WHY DONT THEY JUST MAKE A REAL LIFE MODEL AIRPORT WITH RADIO CONTROLLED MODEL AIRPLANES THAT CAN REALLY FLY? INSTEAD OF THIS MODEL AIRPORT CITY WITH PLANES THAT TAKE OFF BY A STICK
Because "Miniatur Wunderland" is an entertaining exhibition of railroads and spectakular landscapes in an old building.
To fly radiocontrolled Airplanes would be to dangerous for the many visitors of the exhibtion.
The physical laws of nature change not in the same measure as the greatness of the plane.
A Plane in scale one hundred to one, cannot fly with a speed of 2,7 kmh like a orignial plane by a speed of 270 kmh.
So if you build an Mini Airport you have to choose.
Do you want a full scale take of speed - with a simulation of uplift by sticks? so it is in the wonderland -
or use a higher unscale speed (like at all model planes flying).

The reason is:

The aerodynamic drag rises not in a way like the scale rises, the aerodynamic drag rises in the square.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_coefficient
If you double the scale - the Drag coefficient quadruplicate and so on.

:professor2:
Whispering: Especially after the attacks of 9/11 it would have been too much of a security risk to fly planes only controlled by radio. Just think of all the possible targets after a takeover by terrorists, like the Sleeping Beauty Castle with its international tourists or all those train stations nearby. And of course Miwula always had to keep possible followers of the heinous Hamburg cell in mind!
