Selfmakeing houses

Beitrag von Trubi » Donnerstag 11. September 2003, 12:47

Hallo!

I've made some houses by myself :smash: in HO scale, but I have problems with makeing goodlooking and fine detailed windows and doors on those houses. :?: I'd like to know, where could I buy just windows and doors, without other pieces of the house. I'm also interested in stairs, roof gutters and other details for my houses.

Thanks for answer,
Trubi

(Sorry about language, but my German is not so good)

Hello Trubi

Excuse me, my english is a disaster

But I think, I can help you. In Germany, we have a company called "Auhagen". "Auhagen" is distributing windows and doors in different sizes in scale H0. (1:87). You can buy those kits in every well-sorted modelrailway store.

An other solution are small wooden (plastic, or metal) pins, pipes and other usefull things from "Graupner". A perfect way to do it youself :D

OK?

Hi Trubi,

there´s another company, producing fine scaled profiles, namend "Evergreen Scale Models". I´ve used that stuff very
often while my time as an architecture-student.

Try this Link!

Hi Trubi,

I don't know if references to German manufacturers are useful for you, but there are others from the States or UK as well.
So my first question: where are you from?

According to Simon:
These products by Auhagen are sold by "Conrad Elektronik".
Try www.conrad.de and then choose in the left collum "Modellbahn" quite in the middle of the list.
I'm sorry, that I don't know where to find these things in their Onlinecatalogue, but "Infocenter" at the top of the page should help you.
Select "Kontakt per Email" in the List on the left side and then "Infos anfordern".
Here you are able to write an e-mail to them, so that you don't have to search inside their german page (i don't think there's an english page of this firm).
As concern (=Betreff) you choose the first option "I need an offer" (=Ich benötige ein Angebot ). Then you write your question in the box "Ihre Nachricht" and finally give them the informations they want to have:
prename (=Vorname), name (=Nachname), postal adress in your town, either street and number or postbox (=Straße-Nr./Postfach), your town and its number (I don't konow the correct english translation) (=Plz,Ort)
and finally your e-mail adress (=Email-Adresse).
You don't need to fill out the other fields.
At the option I'm a client from (=Ich bin Kunde aus) you choose other countries (=Andere Länder, second option) and click send (=absenden) at the bottom of the page.
Conrad is a shop that delievers you in "foreign" countries, too, with a huge number of modellltrainoffers (bad translated, I suppose).

Furthermore I have another tip for you:
If you only need a few windows, you can get them from ohter modellkits, as usually more windows than needed are sold in the kits.

Good luck,
sebi

just take a look at internettrains.com, you'll find dozens of manufactures offering the things you're looking for.

Which reminds me, you asked for stairs too. Yesterday I took a look in the "Kibri" catalogue. In the accessoires section i found stairs in different sizes. However, "Conrad" is surely still the best place to find the stuff you need.

Hi Trubi,

I´ve cutted Windows from Paper: its special-paper for technical drawings with a weight of 250 gramm per sheet.
This only works for windows in epoch V, windows with crossbars are not so easy to cut...
Doors you can also cut from this paper, with a sharp scalpel-knife no problem, with different layers you can build doors with ornaments.
An other way is to etch it from brass...

please excuse my terrible english, bye
Michael

Hi Trubi,
Depending on the windows/door - style you'd like to model, I'd recommend either the model railroader's "bible" for american style windows: The Walther's catalog (http://www.walthers.com) or - for european style windows exclusively, try to find some accessory - bags from your preferred manufacturer like Faller, Kibri, Vollmer, etc. Your local hobby shop should store them.

Good luck,
Erhard

Hello everybody!!

First of all, I'd like to thank you all, for your answers. You helped me a lot. I just have to decide now :?: , what to buy or what to do.

Martin asked me, where I'm from. Well, I'm from Slovenia (Železniki), and the easiest way to buy something, is Conrad shop. But there's a problem. For anything I order, I pay about 40% more + postal costs. :( Unfortunately, we are not in EU yet.

OK, thanks again, and goodbye.
I'll be in touch.

Why do you have to pay 40 % more than an EU-citizen to buy something at Conrad ?
That the costs for delievering your order to Slovenia by the post might be more expensive than the 4,95 EUR for Germans, looks logically in some ways.
But why 40 % more for the products ?
Perhaps there might be toll to pay, but if you don't import hundreds of windows it simply can't be so much.

Futhermore there is a way to save money:
In Germany you have to pay 16 % of a product's price as tax, and as you are not an EU-citizen, it mihght be that you're able to profit from the tax free programm. Ask Conrad if using this program is possible at them.
Of course is only interesting, if the tax for buying things (Mehrwertsteuer, I don't know the English expression) in Slovenia is lower than in Germany.

But nevertheless I would really be interested in the reason of the 40 %.

Hello Trubi

How about to take a little turn into Munich, southern Germany. If I am informed correctly, so may you find a real "Conrad" -store in the city, where you can buy the stuff in person.

Just an idea...

...Conrad has not always all items in stock. In fact, they are often out of items. I would place an order with everything I need, and pick it up once it's there.
You can also buy it in Switzerland, which is not a EU member.
http://www.feather.ch has a lot of scratchbuild items. I bought mine there. You can write them an email in english, and ask for the pieces you need. He can also send you a fax with a list of all different items they have.
But it's mostly US related though.
Maybe you should give it a try - Good Luck !

U understood? :P
